Sexual Assault



April is Sexual Assault AWARENESS month! What does this mean to you? Have you ever experience Sexual abuse or perhaps you know of someone who has? This can happen anywhere such as work, school, the gym, church, social media platforms etc.


Let's talk about social media platforms and sexual harassment or abuse. What is this, you ask? You thought sexual assault only could happen if someone physically harmed you or touched your private parts without permission.


Let's talk further about this:


Online sexual harassment or abuse happens when someone is sending you unwanted sexual comments.

Someone is sending you unwanted videos of them performing sexual acts.

Unwanted request asking you to send pictures of yourself without clothes.

Unwanted porn videos being sent to you.

Unwanted posting of sexual content about the victim.

Body shaming


Online sexual abuse is REAL. People's lives are negatively impacted with these type of unwanted actions. Children are being targeted more and more. Children are particularly vulnerable to online sexual predators.


Please talk to your children and let them know they can come to you and share their thoughts. Assure them that you both can work through this issue. Educate your children about social media sexual abuse.


Whether you are an adult or a child, dealing with sexual harassment can cause many emotional, psychological and physical wellness concerns.


If you or someone you know are being sexually harassed please speak to an adult you trust immediately. Other steps are to create screen shots of the harassment, block the person and report to the websites. If you feel you are immediate danger call 911. If the issues doesn't place you in immediate danger call the non-emergency officials and make a report about Cyber harassment.
