What is a PANDEMIC? A disease prevalent over a whole country or the world. Affects a large number of people. The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious global health threat.
This Pandemic isn't going away anytime soon. Many people have said this isn't REAL. They have said the GOVERNMENT is LYING. People then started saying Covid-19 is a thing but it isn't that bad. Many have said it is like the Flu and why is the GOVERNMENT making such a big deal about it because people have been getting the Flu for years.
The confirmed COVID-19 cases are drastically increasing daily. People are stating that the Doctors in the United States are inflating those numbers so that they can get additional funding and grants. When you ask these individuals what about the deaths that have occurred due to the COVID-19, they reply that those were elderly people that had underlying health issues.
Let's dig a bit deeper, let's talk about the FLU. The FLU is seasonal! COVID-19 currently has been around for ALL SEASONS! The Flu also called Influenza does have many similarities to COVID-19. But through closer comparison, they can affect people differently. They are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is causes by infection with a new coronavirus (called SARS-Cov-2) and the flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses. I know, I know, that isn't breaking things down enough. Let's keep going.
COVID-19 seems to spread more easily than the FLU and causes more serious illnesses in some people. It can also take longer before people show symptoms and people can be contagious for longer. If a person has COVID-19, it could take them longer to develop symptoms than if they had the flu. COVID-19 appears to spread more quickly than the FLU. Severe illness such as lung injury is more frequent with COVID-19 than with influenza. The mortality rate is also higher with COVID-19 than the flu.
Want to talk numbers? So far in 2020, more than 16 million people have had COVID-19 in the U.S. More that 290,000 people have died of COVID 19 in the U.S. in 2020. By comparison, during the 2019-2020 flu season in the U.S., about 38 million people had the flu and about 22,000 people died of the FLU.
COVID-19 can cause different complications from the flu, such as blood clots and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
I realize the wealth of information out here can be overwhelming. COVID-19 isn't the FLU. The FLU has been around much longer, doctors know more about how to treat and prevent it, while they continue to learn more about COVID-19. What works for the FLU doesn't work for COVID-19. There is a vaccine available now for COVID-19, One Step at A Time. Will you take advantage of this COVID-19 vaccine as you do the FLU vaccine?
